Beara Historical Society Heritage Photosite

INSTRUCTIONS FOR UPLOADING YOUR PHOTOS

To join our Photosite, first register by clicking this link www.bhs.ie/coppermine then click on the ‘Register’ button at the top of the page that appears, and follow the instructions.

Please take the time when registering to add a little about yourself, connections to Beara and to which Society, List or School you belong. This will help others to recognise relatives and stop outsiders from trying to use our resource as a way to promote commercial gain.

To Upload your photos: - First click on Upload File at top of screen. The first time you do this a new box opens: - Create/Order my Files. Click New then in the lower box where it also says New Album – Press the backspace key to remove the words ‘New Album’, then type in a name for your first album, i.e. ‘The Sullivan Family’ or whatever you choose, then click on the upwards arrow button. Repeat this if you want to add more Album names at this time. (You can always add more Albums later) When finished, click on ‘New Modifications’.

Another Box will appear saying ‘Do you want to make these Modifications?’ Click on O.K to Continue. Now click on ‘Upload file’ at top of screen again – In the boxes that appear, click on the ‘Browse Button’ in box No.1 and then browse through your computer until you find the photo you wish to upload. Point at it with the mouse cursor; click the mouse button to ‘Highlight’ the file then click the ‘Open Button’. Repeat the process, using boxes No’s.2 through No’s.5, if you want to add more photos at this time. (We would suggest you only upload one photo the first time, so as to get used to the process) When finished adding photos, click ‘Continue’.

When all your photos have uploaded to the site (this may take a few minutes depending on the speed of your Internet connection) Another box appears with your first photo, (they may not be in the order you uploaded them, but don’t worry about this) click on the Select ‘Album Box’ to choose the Album into which you want to place the photo.

In the Box below this put in a description of the photo, i.e. name of the person or place. In the second box put in a detailed description, i.e. the people’s names, date, place, etc. In the third box add relevant Keywords, i.e. ‘Brandy Hall’ (This will help others to quickly find a photo as the database grows). Click ‘Continue’. Next screen will say, ‘The Previous file was placed Successfully’.

Click ‘Continue’ and repeat as above until all your photos are entered.

We would ask the members to only upload photos or writings directly connected with Beara: - i.e. photos of the peninsula or relatives and friends, photos by preference to be over 20 years old.

(Postcards, or articles and photos taken from newspapers or books, should be over 70 years old so as not to infringe Copyright)

If you have problems uploading your photos feel free to contact the society or Email them to photos@bhs.ie and we will upload them for you. Please add a description for each image, i.e. names of people, family nickname, townland, approximate date, place taken, etc. Don’t worry if you only have a part of this information, maybe others will be able to fill in some details, the important thing is for us to get as many photos as possible online and build up a photographic record of our extended Beara family for future generations.
